Office of the Mayor

Whereas: The time has come to look up to heaven, voice our grief and share it with everyone; and

Whereas: Senseless loss of life, liberty and property can be diminished once we all regain a vision of world peace; and

Whereas: The United Nations 50th Anniversary Global Peace Walk began in New York City on January 15, 1995 and arrived in Taos, New Mexico on April 20, 1995; and

Whereas: The Global Peace Walk is about developing consciousness, bring back knowledge, and praying for peace; and

Whereas: The walk coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, and the United Nation's declaration of the Decade of Indigenous People.

NOW THEREFORE, I Fredrick A. Peralta, MAYOR OF TAOS, hereby declare Taos, New Mexico a

GLOBAL PEACE ZONE

and welcome the United Nations 50th Anniversary Global Peace Walk to Taos, New Mexico.
