Text of Proclamation by San Francisco Mayor

Here is text of the official Mayoral Proclamation designating

San Francisco a GLOBAL PEACE ZONE.

PROCLAMATION

City and County of San Francisco

Whereas, senseless of loss of life, liberty and property can be eliminated once we establish a vision of world peace in concurrence with nonviolent solutions to world differences; and

Whereas, we must rededicate ourselves to promote knowledge and love, and to spread the message of "Global Peace Now!"; and

Whereas, the Global Peace Project seeks to unite the world in peace in the spirit of great, inspirational leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and

Whereas, the Global Peace Project has honored San Francisco by designating San Francisco as California's first Global Peace Zone on January 24,1997, and today we celebrate the first anniversary of this important milestone; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Willie L. Brown, Jr., Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, in honor of the Global Peace Project and the original United Nations Charter honoring universal human rights, do hereby proclaim on January 24, 1998, that San Francisco is a ...
